When Anushka and Sayoni, my publishers and editors at Duckbill asked me to write a piece for the Duckbill blog around life, dogs, bonkers and stuff in general, it certainly took me down memory lane.
Pure admiration shone through the smiles, giggles and snorts as I recalled so many moments growing up with numerous dogs. Admiration for my parents who were brave enough to add yet another dog to a growing brood. The runt of every other litter was always too weak to hand over. Some never left for one of us would form an emotional attachment. Others appeared when we lost a dog to old age or an illness. Along with the many dogs came the fun times with their many antics, the tough times when a dog fell unwell, the over excited times when a few days old pup would open its eyes for the first time, the heart thumping times when a new litter would be delivered by a labouring mother in front of me…
